Discussion Starter #1
I bought a used Brazilian made 1999 Gol (not a Golf). I live in Nicaragua - so good technical help is pretty scarce. The ignition broke with the key in it. The starter was grinding away so I disconnected the battery and popped the clutch. A local car electrician has been helping me. We replaced the ignition cylinder which of course came with new keys, but the car shuts off immediately after 1 - 2 seconds. It appears that there is an immobilizer. I was reading about the SKU code, but I can't find it. Is it possible to bypass the immobilizer? I'm really at a loss.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The ignition switch shouldn't activate the immobilizer. According to the FAQ, you can bypass it but you still need to know the SKC number.
