I'm new to this car (A4, Jetta TDI wagon 2005) so lots of discoveries and questions.
After looking through the owner's manual I discovered that the dark window below the fuel and temp displays is for what is called a Multi-function indicator. Mine displays the warning/advisory lights at start up but then remains dark. What's up with that? Is there a switch that I need to trip or a bulb that needs replacing or did my car not come with that option? Or worse?
Any guesses appreciated.

The picture is pretty small but it looks like you have an auto and don't have the half screen MFD so therefore there shouldn't be anything there. I'm pretty sure that Jetta/Golf did not have the half screen MFD optional for the mk4 cars in the US.

Here's another shot of the same multi-function indicator. I still don't know if this is normal and that my car just didn't get the full display option or if mine is faulty, maybe just needing a new bulb or what?
