Hi Everyone I am a new member with a couple of questions. I recently purchased a 2005 jetta Tdi 1.9L from a private seller with a 128,000 miles, it is the older model because vw changed mid year 05. I live in buffalo ny.

- What is a good substitute motor oil which is less costly?

- When I top off my fuel tank (twice so far) the fuel gauge reads 3/4 full, can I adjust this?

Thanks

Hi, and welcome.

1)substitute oil as opposed to what type of oil? Anyhow your car needs VW 505.01 rated oil (special for pumpe duse),here is a list of approved oils. Seems you are stuck with 5w-40.You should use good quality oil because engine parts will be more expensive than using good oil http://www.mediafire.com/?d1trxa51kf9ygd9
2)It may be the sender in the fuel tank that has worn.

I hope this helps :D

Thanks Wheeler97 good info to have. One more question: While driving mostly highway miles how often should the motor oil be changed?

Thanks

look in the FaQ diy maintenance section. It will answer all your questions and suggest when maintenance should be performed. Oil can be changed at 10,000 but I change mine every 5 -7 thousand. Thats just me.

I'm changing mine every 15 000 kilometers = 9 320.56788 miles. And according to this article so should you. Basically, the earlier you change the better.Since you have to use quite an expensive oil, you should be fine changing it every 10000miles (according to the recommendation), just do it ON TIME and don't forget to change those filters.

Thanks for the Info

I want to thank Y'all for the oil info. I wasn't able to find any vw 505 01 oil on the shelf so ordered some online. Worth waiting for the shipping.
