My dad drove my car and he left a light on. The car would not turn over at all, no clicking nothing but the headlights and dash lights were on. We hooked a portable power pack up and nothing, went to jumper cables for about 15 min and nothing. I had it towed, but am looking for a starting place to narrow this down to what it could be. You need to check out the starter system with a multimeter

Hard starts, seems electrical

Checked the battery, good. 12 volts to the starter - nothing when turn the key. No solenoid click nothing. I will check with a generic scanner, but that probably wont show all that the vw one would.

12v while cranking or stationary?

It could be an ignition switch problem.

A generic scanner can give false results.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.
