I changed the oil and saw that there was leaky oil underneath the engine. How can I fix this?

This is a very general question....first you need to find the oil leak. This could be anywhere.

Clean the engine and then note where you see the oil streaking from. Most likely it's the valve cover or a loose connection. I know the mk3 egr can weep oil, I don't know about the mk4 tho.

You could have also spilled some oil when you were filling it last. This will drip down and make the valve cover look like its leaking.

Thats a place to start.

Easy. Find the leak, stop it!

Seriously though, finding the leak is half of it. See the above post.

You could use brake cleaner on a rag and wipe clean the area, let dry, and slop some gasket maker around it. But that's only a band-aid that might not even work. If you can get access to the leak, replacing the gasket is the only way. Don't use oil leak stoppers or additives.
