Brake pedal becomes harder to push and brakes not as effective. Possible vacuum leak to Booster? Any hints? 2002 VW Transporter.

Bingo. Look for a broken hose.

Yep, broken hose or loose hose. It may have cracked on the far side so look carefully.

Or have someone press on the brakes with the engine running and look/listen for yourself.

Found the problem

Thank you very much for your time and help. I found a small plastic vacuum line had come out of its hose down near the radiator fans. Hard to see but the price was right.

Could also try double pumping to try to build up vac.
