My car just started to run bad for no reason. Seems very rich, will put black soot on ground out of exhaust pipe. If I unplug the MAP sensor it will run without the turbo. Limp mode I think, but runs and gets me to work and back. It has code P0404 pulling up. I do not see any results on this site when I search for it. My TDI is a 06 model with 237000 miles on it.
Anyone got any Ideas?

P0404 is a EGR circuit code. You most likely have an exhaust or intake leak which is why it's running rich.

Check the engine bay for soot or oil stains near the intake or exhaust piping. Make sure to inspect the back of the engine. Some people have had failed EGR coolers or piping or valves.

Is there anyway to bypass it so the turbo will work again? Mine is a 06 model.
While in this limp mode it also take out the cruise control so I would like to get it going again. I seen there is a lot of piping all on the back side as it sits in the car. I will be very difficult without pulling the motor.

I had a similar issue. I pulled out of the driveway (-16 C outside), the car wouldn't accelerate. It felt like it wasn't getting fuel. I though it might be gelled or ice in the line. After I let it idle for 10min I was able to drive it with reduced power and got P0404 error code. I took the EGR valve off and it was almost not movable. After cleaning, oiling the EGR valve stem and working the oil in, I was able to get it working again.
