key stuck in ignition - HELP!!!

Found an old Passat Key in our key bin and tried to use it in our 06' Passat. Unfortunately, I think it was a key that had been disfunctional (and eventually replaced), but my wife forgot to throw it away.

Now the immobilizer is active and won't release the key.

Is there an easy way to release it?

Take a look in the immobilizer FAQ for some troubleshooting tips: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/immobilizer-VW-Audi-FAQ.htm

It should unlock itself. If you want to use that key you have to take it to the dealer for programming.
