Well I'm just going by what Autodata says

Timing belt - Renew Every 80000 miles or 48 months

Timing belt tensioner - Renew Every 160000 miles or 96 months

If its done more than 100k as he says its still over due. You never wait until 99,999 miles do you? ;)

That's right...you guys got the mk5 Golf in 2003 so that's what you must be looking at.

We didn't get the mk5 Golf until 2006 so he's talking about the mk4 Golf with the BEW engine, the interval was 100,000 miles for those, the mk5 cars with the BRM engine (Jetta only here) it was lowered to 80,000 from the original 100,000.

Well I wasn't search for mk4 it just shows Golf (03-08) and the 1.9 PD engine shows BRU, BKC, BJB, BLS, BXE, BXF and BXJ engine codes and they all show 80k.

The Golf\Golf Estate (Wagon) (98-06) 1.9 PD shows AJM, ANU, AUY, ATD, ARL, ASZ and AXR

The BEW doesn't show on any 1.9 PD engine or model so thats probably a US engine code. ;)

Our manual says 100k, so that's what we were going by....So far all is well, we're putting it back together, and belt looked fine, not worn at all. So I guess alls well that ends well.
