Hi;

I have a 2006 Jetta TDI. It has a lot of road noise. I am looking to change the tires to something quiet and with low rolling resistance, better mileage. I find that tires get noisier the older they get. Does anyone have any recommendations for quiet tires that stay quiet and still perform well? I live in the US.

Generally speaking, harder tires are louder. I've been pretty happy with michelin primacy mxv4. They are quieter on a B5 Passat than the yokohama dbs2 tires I had on a B5 Audi A4 years ago. The db line is made specifically to be quiet though the dbs2 was more of a sporty tire. I don't know how their current db super E spec tire is but you could check out tire rack for some reviews.

What tire do you have now and how many miles are on it? Any new tires will be quieter. Try spraying truck undercoating on the wheel well liners, that's your tip chitty http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/soundproofing-car.htm and cut noise there.

I am using the Michelin Primacy MXM4 on my 2010 Jetta TDI, excellent noise, handling, rolling resistance.
