I have an '04 Jetta. A few days ago it "backfired" abd blew the hose off the EGR valve. I put the hose back on and it seemed O.K. Next time I drove it, the same thing happened. The only code coming up is a temp sensor that has been there for some time. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've heard of this being a bad camshaft, check the camshaft for lobe wear, see the FAQ. Also, the hose tabs like to wear down to the point where they will no longer hold.

It sheared the tabs off the hose when it blew it off. I will check the cam. The dealers around here don't seem to be very knowledgeable on the diesel, and I hate to pay them $80/hr. to throw parts at it.
Thanks
