not sure if i done the last post correctly so i'll start again....im new to this,i drive a 2005 1.9 tdi vw golf, after pulling out of a turning yesterday i heard a sound like i ran over a tin can or something like that, straight away the engine lost power and a lot of white/grey smoke is coming out the exhaust, also the engine will only rev just over 4000 rpm,any ideas what this could be,a couple of people have said its the turbo??????????

Hi,welcometomyturbodies It sounds like a possibility and worth exploring, I would take off the pipe going from the turbo to the intercooler and from there to the inlet manifold and see if there's a lot of oil in there. I'm sure there's a faq somewhere for the turbo but can't find it at the moment. Could be worth unplugging the maf too and seeing if it runs better. If so it could be that but best would be to get the car plugged up to see if any codes have been logged.:)

There are so many different possible causes that without detailed diagnosis we would just be throwing out guesses. First, have the car scanned for codes. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/low-power-fix-TDI.htm Read this article, it gives a checklist for low power as if the turbo is gone. A little bit of oil in the intake is normal, a few cups is not. If you have that much oil, don't drive the car because it could runaway: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/stop-runaway-diesel-engine-how-to.htm
