It sounds like it could be a quantity adjust problem on the injection pump (I don't know if that model uses a quantity adjuster) or a throttle problem.
At least with US models, the electronic throttle pedal can get messed up. The wiring too. These faults can cause erratic running. If your car uses an injection pump then the pump could be having some problems. It might explain the starting problem too.
I don't think the air mass sensor is the problem since when it dies you don't get flip flopping between bad and suddenly good performance. Get the car scanned for codes and see what comes up.
