2006 VW Jetta TDI

My fuel gauge seems to be reading about 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank too high at all times. After driving it about 100 miles, the tank still shows that it is full. The other night when I filled the tank up, I put in 10 gallons into the 14.5 gallon tank after it had showed that it was half full.

Basically, I am going by my trip odometer to know when to fill up, but it is still annoying. What do I probably need to replace? Is the fuel level sensor in the sending unit? How do I access the part? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Being inaccurate seems to be fairly common
This is my first VW. But my family has had several. From my experience, VW fuel gauges have been EXTREMELY accurate. Basically, if the low fuel light comes on, you better fill up because you are almost out of gas.

I really want to get a full tank run on my car and see if I can break 600 miles. But I am not very confident right now with how much fuel I have remaining.

Thanks for the info on the location of the sending unit. Can anyone confirm that this is what I need to replace? I don't want to start taking stuff apart until I have a better idea of what needs to be replaced.
