my daughter has a 2002 VW Beetle Turbo and is starting to have a few problems and think it is with immobilizer. What is happening is sometimes the immobilizer icon is staying on for a little while on dash of car and also car is hard to start at times, this is not happening all the time BUT it is starting to happen more often and would like to know what I might be able to look at to try and fix this problem, Thanks

Hard to start =/= immobilizer. When you turn the car on, the immobilizer icon stays on for a second or so then turns off. Does it stay on longer than that?

If it's the immobilizer, it'll start completely fine but shut off after a second. The immobilizer does not prevent or affect engine starting, it just shuts it off after a second. Does this match your symptoms?

Well the immobilizer icon is the MIL/CEL light which could mean you have other problems on board. If the immobilizer is on the it will start for 1-2 seconds then stop but if your having difficulty in starting it will be something else. You need to find someone with VAG-COM to do a scan just in case other components are linked?

Hi chittychittybangbang, when my daughter goes to start the car it will start then stop after a couple seconds and it has now started doing this a fair bit lately, she has also told me that sometimes she will start the car and drive down the road a bit and the immobilizer light on dash stays on for a little while, have no idea what to look at ?

You need to find someone with VAG-COM to do a scan just in case other components are linked?

I've said what you need or you get the dealer to drag it in and fix it?
