I have a 2003 Passat wagon. I bought it 1 year ago with 150K miles. I LOVE it!!!

I have had to replace the turbo (it was bad when I got the car), and buy a new key because the dealer only gave me one. Wow that was $300(ish). THEN, the dealer found the spare set and gave them to me,

but here is the kicker - the immobilization system kicks in with the spare set. I guess the RFID doesn't match.

So, I am looking at my options

It's possible that the immmobilizer was changed and they didn't sync the old key. If so, you could still use it to open the doors in an emergency but it's currently worthless for starting the car. If I were you, I'd go back to the dealer and ask them to resync the keys because when they programmed the new key, they should have set it so the old key still works.
