Hot Ignition Key

Hi, I am very happy with my new 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. Is it common that the key gets very hot in the ignition? When I pull the key out it is sometimes, not always, very hot. I put my finger on the key hole and it is really hot. Is this normal?
Thanks, Minnetrista

Is it the key hole or the key that gets hot? Does the key hole smell like burning wire insulation?
Both the key hole and key get hot. I do not smell any electrical smell or insulation smell.
I would say no. Definitely bring it to the dealer. Why would the key hole get hot anyways unless there's an overheating wire in there?
I get this as well, but normally it's only noticeable when I have the electronics on without the engine on. My guess is the key actually completes a circuit for the wiring and the electricity going through it warms it up. Unless someone tells me better, I don't think it's a big deal.
I don't think the key should be completing a circuit...
