hello,

I've got a mk4 tdi jetta. It's a great car with 250k miles on it. Lately I've had a shudder hesitation and power loss problem. This is with city driving. I have not gone on the highway since it started.

Reading the various threads on this site and others I went ahead and changed
the fuel filter, cleaned out the air intakes, replaced the MAF, cleaned out the EGR valve assembly,
and cleaned out the intake manifold to the extent I could without removal.

It still runs just as bad. However, when I disconnect the MAF it seems to run fine.
Any suggestions?

You have to remove the intake manifold to clean it. You don't want hard chunks falling into the engine and most of the stuff is in the neck bend.

The most obvious question is what codes is it throwing? You've replaced the MAF and filters but checking codes is free. If it seems to run better with the MAF disconnected, imagine how well it will run with the MAF connecting and everythinig working. You might even be able to go on the highway!

This could be a fueling or boost issue as well.

Have you read this FAQ article: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/low-power-fix-TDI.htm ?
