Ok Uwe, I contacted Ross-Tech on 6/26/2010 8:46 AM asking
I have a 2010 Golf GTD. There appears to be a bit of confusion over the cable and interface needed for this vehicle. Can you please tell me if the one list below is the correct one?
VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface
Now the application chart shows
HEX-USB+CAN (USB) and
Micro-CAN (USB)
Now your prices are all in US dollars $349. Do you have any distributors in the UK that can sell this part?
And Bruce's reply was
You are exactly correct. Both the HEX-USB+CAN and the MicroCAN work with the 2010 Golf platforms.
The HEX style interface will cover all VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda from 1995 through the 2010 model years. The MicroCAN is designed specifically to work with the MKV and MKVI platform vehicles. As such, it starts with the 2005 model year and goes to the 2010 year.
We have several distributors in the UK but only one that stocks both interfaces: Gendan. Please consult the
distributor list for more information.
The requirements for HEX-USB+CAN is WinXP, I use a laptop running Vista Home Premium 32bit.
The Micro-CAN shows 2007+ VW Golf Variant/Wagon (1K chassis) and shows Vista. It also says 2010+ VW Golf/Jetta (1K/5K chassis, AJ VIN - North America only), North American only so it won't work on 2010+ UK Golfs then?
If your car's chassis type isn't on this list, it's not compatible with this interface!
A lot of users today might be running Win7. Do you have plans to update your software to included Win7?
What I need to know is which one would be better HEX-USB+CAN or MicroCAN? What are the different features of both systems, the site doesn't really say?
Oh another funny thing is if you want to contact Ross-Tech it uses a Yahoo Mail account luckily I've had one for years, I'm not sure all users have though.
