Hey, so I told my mother-in-law I would help her with her next purchase for a car and we found a TDI with 100K miles. The dealership that checked it out said that the timing belt needed to be changed and it would cost her around $1,200. Having been a mechanic in the Army I told her I could do it for her and save her some money. Since then I have also changed my sister-in-laws timing belt along with a bunch of other miscellaneous repairs for various family members! Although I kinda wish I kept my mouth shut - I am glad to have found your site and learned to replace the belt myself. Now I will know how to do it when the time comes that we by a TDI for my wife and her belt needs changing!
