well all; joined up for the excellent ALH timing belt change 'how to article'... bit of a long winded affair actually loggin in here, but its done now...

Im used to spannering on old 1.6TD's n 1.9AAZ's 1Ys etc; this skoda octavia is 'the newest' ive done a belt on; right old 'ordeal' ... do I have to remove the camshaft belt pulley??

I 'assisted' in an ALH belt change years ago -with t'engine out, and i seem to remeber we somehow got the new belt on without removin the cam belt pulley...

Im sure 'page 2' will hold all the answers'!!...:thumbsup

Its proberley my own fault; re the loggin in... Im forseeing with the t/b change, once the 'small guide wheels' are removed there'll be enough 'give' in the belt to get it on... always rather stiff the new belts...
Ive it all done now; TBH its one of the more straight forward belts Ive done, in terms of 'difficulty actually gettin the belt on' aspect, which worried me... most of 'longwindedness' seems in the disassembly, particularly that engine mount...

The guide was a brilliant aid tho; it very well detailed. I made up my own cam lockin tool out of 12mm plate (a scrap I had to hand)- the tongue bit for the cam ground down to size; and tensioner wrench/tool/thing too; some 4mm steel plate with two holes dilled in it, 20mm apart for the nails to be pushed through, the nail heads then 'welded' down' to the otherside... the how to provided useful diagrammes to do this...
