Hi All. I just got a new Jetta TDI last week and so far I am pretty impressed with it. According to the dash display, I am getting around 44 MPG in mixed driving, which is more than I hoped for. We'll see how accurate it is when I fill er up next week.

Being highly suspicious of "new" motors, I decided to lease this car. I figure that VW is on the hook for all maintenence and warranty for the first three years. If it turns out to be a good car, I will buy it. If not, they can have it back and we will see what else is out there. I bought the F250 in my signature when Ford was introducing the 6.0 Powerstroke, and I am sure glad I got the 7.3. I have done all the mods on this truck. Next thing coming is an ATS ported compressor housing then a DP Tuner F5 chip. I use the truck for hauling horses (I have 4) and pulling a fifth wheel toy hauler.

It looks like there is a ton of good information here on modifying the TDI. Too bad I won't be able to participate much for the first 3 yrs. :(

Oh, you will like the TDI. The most common problems I'm hearing is condensation in the intercooler hose causing some rough running. It appears this is a design problem. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f7/cr-cold-weather-inspection-4197/ Here are some pics about it.

The other is the high pressure fuel pumps wearing down and failing. This will cause stalling and the replacements are quite expensive. It appears that VW has revised the design a few times due to the low quality fuel in the US vs. Europe. Hopefully they have it right :)

Thanks for the tip. Hopefully we will get some warmer weather soon and not have to worry about this condensation issue for a few months. I plan to drive it like I stole it, so if there are problems with the fuel pump, I want them to happen during the lease period. Same with the dpf.
