Hi, my name is Stafford. I live in Buffalo, NY and drive a 2001 Anthracite Blue Passat sedan. It's a five speed, 1.8t, and I love it. I just bought some wheels using this page as a reference http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/wheels/17-vw-wheels-5x112.htm and signed up because the Bi-Stars (Phoenixes) that I bought are actually 8" wide, not 7".

Does that mean it's spacer time then or will they just not squeeze in there?

I've checked various classifieds and the parts catalog says that the bistars are 7" wide. Maybe you have replicas or are measuring the tire instead of at the wheel lip?

Can you take pics to verify this showing the width of the wheel and the part number? There should be a part number stamped on the back of the wheel spokes.
