Hello! I have recently joined the forums. I've founs a lot of great info from here. I have just ordered parts for camshaft and lifter replacement for my Passat. I gained a lot of confidence from the chittychitty's guide. The car has 488000 kms on it and I wan't to keep it going for a long time.

It's my second vw. Later this summer I'm going to clean the whole intake piping to manifold, it's full of oily gunk and I'm sure it has never been cleaned.
Looking forward to contribute with you all!

Welcome. Wow your car has a lot of KMS on it. Yeah, your plan is good to clean the piping and the manifold. With so many KMS people have been recommended to buy a new intake manifold. It used to be like a $100 but now I don't know with the worldwide shortages.

I cleaned mine out and it was a bit of a process and a bit messy. Senior members recommend against using oven cleaner as it eats up aluminum. Just so you know.

I put mine in a bucket full of gasoline. Not the best or safest but it did the job.

Good luck and keep us posted of the progress.
