I was in our car park at work and this Mk5 Golf TDI came on and reversed into a space next to me. He turn the engine off and took the key out and his brake lights were still on until he took his foot of the brake pedal. I asked him if he knew about this and he said its the wifes car I don't know because I don't drive it that much. I said well thats my car there and mine doesn't do it so he walked off looking worried.

I've seen this in the States where a car has stopped and they are getting out then the brake lights go off. I wonder if it is normal in the UK or does he have a fault? ;)

Chitty can you please change the title to Golf Mk5 Brake Lights On With Key Out it will make more sense? It seems strange you can't edit that afterwards?

The title edit is a limitation of this forum software.

Yes, in the States, even if the car is off, key out, if you step on the brake pedal the brake lights will turn on.
