Hi guys,

I have a Mk5 golf, 2.0 TDI, BKD engine, Manual transmission.
For several months I have been experiencing some judder in the cabin, when idling, for example at traffic lights, and can't understand what it can be. When I'm on 1st gear and release the throttle completely, the vibrations intensify and you can hear several rattles.

I have scanned it several times with VCDS but I do not get any fault code.

Some months ago I adjusted the intake camshaft to set the Torsion value to 0, and the exhaust camshaft to get a consloumption of 0.6l/h at idle but it made no difference at the vibrations.w

It doesn't show a glowplug fault code so I'am excluding the injector/glowplug wiring loom, from what I've read on this forum.

I also checked the injection deviation and I didn't notice anything strange, Injector 4 runs at around +1 but from what I understand seems within limits.

Could it be the DMF?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

At the same time I am experiencing from time to time problems with cold starting. The car cranks normally but does not start. This happens when I don't use the car for several days. Today was one of those days, tried by disconnecting the camshaft position sensor, but it made no difference. Only way to start the car was with a start spray on the intake hose.
What should I check? Fuel pump, tandem pump?

Thanks in advance

I generally prefer to run my torsion value non zero, 0 is the value reported when it is way off so it can be confusing. On the engine, there should be the factory set torsion value, and they usually run in the -2 to -4 range from what I have seen. Maybe see if you can find what the factory set it to and see if it runs better at that value? But again, I always avoided 0 because it is hard to know if you are actually 0.

DMF failure rattles when cold. So that is rather distinctive.

IQ measurements are much debated. Generally, enthusiasts say -0.5 to +0.5. The spec is -2 to +2 IIRC. Your cold start sounds like the early stages of the top set of injector seals leaking. Hard to say and many have argued to the contrary. If you park it hood uphill, does it struggle to start more rapidly than sitting a few days? +1 in 4, probably your leaker IME, but like I said, it's highly debated.

I was at +0,5 and made several adjustments between 0,5 and -0.5 till i hit the mark. But I'm afraid it's not the main problem.

Could possibly be the DMF, I experienced the same issue for a few months. Once the car was idling you could hear a knocking or shudder noise also at low RPM the sound would come again. If your car is at running an idle and the sound appears try pumping the clutch in and if sound goes away its definitely the DMF (throw out bearing aka release bearing).

Regarding the cold start, my car was similar where it cranks over for a couple of seconds first before it would start even after the engine had fully warmed up the issue was there, possible solution which worked for me was when I had my car remapped the tuner added or adjusted something to the ECU called a "hot-start" and now my car starts up first time every time.

Quick update, today I fitted a new Sachs clutch kit and DMF. The gear change is butter smooth now, no noises and no rattles. But unfortunately I still experience a strange judder in the cabin when idling. I don't know what to check next. Any advice?
