I mixed a few existing writeups together and edited the pics and fixed some typos. All the information on glovebox repair can be seen on 1 page and easily compared. Some people prefer to remove the entire glvoe box assembly, some like to repair it without removal. 1 writeup also included disassembly of the lock cylinder which is uncessary unless you mess up.

Writeup can be seen here:

Lol, how do you repair an earlier jetta glove box door? Mine broke off and is hanging on by 1 arm. JB weld doesn't work.

Clean the broken areas with rubbing alcohol and then try superglue + JB weld on top of the broken area. Some glues won't stick to dirt or greasy plastic.

2nd, clean and JB Weld + superglue. Just be careful because the mk3 glove box doors can easily break by hyperextending it. All glvoe box doors can be broken by forcing the movement. And although the gear driven glovebox should be better, my gear driven ashtray on the Audi is broken. Don't know why they couldn't just have it slide out on a track with no gears. The ashtray is rarely used so no idea why it broke and not going to invest the time to fix it.

Caution attempting to disassemble glove box door

Caution attempting to disassemble glove box door on the second generation "stronger" glove box.

My mechanism for the door stopped working. The handle somehow had issues after that. I attempted to pry open the door skin... Below are the results in the attachment... As you can see, compared to the older style (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/images/a4/interior/gloved2.jpg), it has A LOT more attachments inside. This caused the outter edges to break before the inner connections detached... Maybe with some heating it might work, but I'm in for a new door....
