Gasoline in my TDI

1876 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  buggy9
The gas attendant pumped 10 gal of gasoline in my Passat TDI when my wife asked for diesel; apparently he can't read nor understand.
Car died few minutes later. Now, how do I get rid of all the fuel in my tank?
Any recommendations and/or opinions appreciated.

Remove the fuel filter but don't replace it - just leave it open so all the fuel drips out. Here is how: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b5/fuel-filter-vw-passat-tdi.htm

Lift the rear seat bottom cushion. There are 3x phillips screws under the seat on a cap. Unscrew the ring cap and lift the fuel pump a little so you can get a suction hose in there.

Suck out ALL the old fuel and discard it. Replace the fuel filter with a new one and replace the fuel pump. Fill the tank all the way with diesel.

A splash of powerservice diesel fuel additive will help add lubrication. Gas is a solvent and can leave behind a varnish. There'll still be about a pint of mixed fuel in there but it's diluted to the point where it's not worth getting it out.
