Hi guys/gals.

Does anyone know any links for VW VIN number details?

One or two of you may know that I make programmes. I'm trying to make a VIN number decoder. You just type in the VIN number and it tells you all the details about that number. Now I've searched the web and gathered a few bits and pieces. I know ETKA tells you more details than you can find on the web.

If anyone has any useful links or suggestions they will be appreciated.

Only 3 users have shown any interest in my Free EOBD II Error Codes software so I haven't posted it yet, I may do over the weekend. Lets see if we have any takers for this.

What else can you learn from the VIN that's not in those lists?
Well with ETKA it tells me.

VIN: WVWZZZ1KZAW267666

Ok I think I've found it, its a Castrol oil site. If you enter your registration number it will tell you your cars oil details.

Keith put tons of info on my thread about matching- it -up. Good info.
I keep wondering, (as Keith had previously brought to light) is,

How can I tell if my engine has been changed, is there a way to match engine # to the year of the engine?

If you know the engine code thats just the first 3 or 4 letters of the engine number then ETKA will give you a list of all VW engine codes and tell you which model, engine and year they were fitted?

On mine there is a label on the left-hand front door jam that shows the engine code and other codes but if your engine has been changed then that won't match.

I'm still working on my FREE VW VIN Number Decoder.

Ok I've found another good site, it will show more info than typing in your p-codes from your Options sticker Options Sticker and Engine Codes

Just type in your VIN number, I'm afraid its French but you can always use a translator if you don't know what its saying. VIN search tool You can click on Translate to convert.

You can double-click the example VIN number if you want to see info of that VIN number. If you hold your mouse over the green colour code it shows you a car painted in that colour.

No the French site doesn't translate but you can click on the Translate button to convert the codes properly but as I've said before if you download VAG Option Codes List there are 12736 codes to search for and the codes are a true English conversion.

I found another VIN decoder on another forum I use. Now a guy posted his VIN number and its one of those forums that links VIN numbers so I clicked on it and it showed info for his VIN number VIN decoder. I thought his VIN number looks a bit strange but it did show some interesting info. I clicked on the link and pasted my VIN number it didn't shown anything for my VIN but it might show something for your VIN, just give it a go and you have nothing to loose.

Let me know if it shows info on your VIN number, I'm just curious?

Ok I've google it for more VIN decoders and I've found http://www.vin-decoder.net/sample_vw_vin_decoder you obviously click on US VIN Decoder and paste you VIN number in and type the Captcha: code and your VIN shows up. Obviously its for US VIN number as it recognises TDIJSWFan's VIN number but it doesn't recognise my VIN number.

That site doesn't tell me anymore info that I know from the VIN number.

No that VIN checker tells you sweet FA. It says Country of Assembly: NIEMCY when it was made in Wolfsburg.

I've checked 7 other VIN numbers VW and Audi and it shows Country of Assembly: NIEMCY for all when the Audi's are Ingolstadt, Germany.

It worked well with my VIN , I copied the below information from the tech section from the link.
I found it interesting that they noted two mpg ratings for the hwy and city mileage. I Imagine to account for driving conditions traffic , and talent haha.

I found another on a forum Volkswagen VIN decoder which gives basic info for mine and I put an old US VIN number in 3VWDB21GXNM004805

VCDS log files show the VIN number if you want to try those?

You need to be more specific as there are a lot of VW's on here, please add the model and year?

WAUZZZ8E76A202559 that VIN number and 8E is Audi A4/S4/RS4 B6/B7 (2001 > 2008)
