Since 1991 and almost every year before and after, a pickup has been the best seller in the US. Gas prices are killing everyone and the civic has outsold them. I also heard that GM just announced the closure of 4 plants because their large vehicles are sitting at dealer lots, unsold. This is a major shift in the US car driving set.

Future news flash:
The aptera 150 mpg SUV has outsold the honda civic for the first time since 2010.
I too believe that there is a big shift in driving styles and cars. It's not the end of oil, it's the end of cheap oil.

Those who can afford hummers can mostly afford to pay the large gas bill.

No they can't , that's why I haven't seen a Hummer on the road in a while. I used to see them all the time. 50% of the cars on the road seemed like they were SUVs. Now it's like 10% and no Hummers. They couldn't afford the gas either.
