I think I may want to go all out and do clutch, new chip, new nozzles all at the same time. Not now because it's doing okay. I've been doing some research and am probably going to go with a vr6 clutch.

But who makes the best chip for larger nozzles?

If I were you, I would drive a TDI until the clutch is waving at you to change, I have been driving my Jetta TDI for 1 year with chip and nozzles, and still good with the clutch so far,, for your tune I recomend rocket chip, awsome tune, you will never regret it.

Yes, rocket chip is fairly priced and he also is a TDI specialist. He might not answer your email right away and not to start a war, but is probably the best chip maker due to all the different tunes he has.

Even with a chip and mild nozzles, my clutch is slipping too but it's still controllable. The key is to control boost spikes. In other words, don't stomp on the accelerator pedal. This causes a sharp spike in power and can overwhelm the clutch. I also have a taller 5th gear. If I stomp on the accelerator on the highway, it slips a bit. Before it was a rare slip. If you can wait until spring, I should have a clutch change writeup specific to the mk3 cars. I would do it sooner but it's too cold to work on the car. If you can't wait, your other thread had some places where you can buy a clutch.

And about chip tuners, upsolute and wetteraurer aren't really improving their tunes as people's mods evolve on your specific car, so I would suggest rocketchip.

Since you're going with a more powerful clutch, don't bother with the .184, go for the power plus .205. If you go too big it will be smokey but the chip tuner can help control the smoke. Again, smoke levels are highly subjective.

If you plan on turbo+intercooler, you might consider the .216 but since the cost is small compared to a turbo+intercooler, I think the .205 would be the optimal size for your planned setup.

I went with pp520, and my car will put out a little haze only when I really step on the pedal, but other than that no smoke, but you will get a big smile on your face by feeling the torque, what I heard from Charlie at Kerma is that pp520 nozzles is the most popular for a TDi with stock turbo and tune, I could tell you that you are not going to be dissapointed with the tune and any upgraded nozzles.

Yes, I was trying to avoid a clutch change when I put in the .184 nozzles but no luck. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the .205 PP520 nozzles since I need a clutch anyways. Then again, if I had put in the larger nozzles I would have needed a clutch much sooner, I can hold off till spring as a result of having less power.

In the end, you have to realize that once you start modifying your car, what is the goal? Do you want to maximize power or economy or something in between? Then mod to that goal. I am happy not having an all out power car. Plus, suspension mods are felt with every bump, power mods are felt only when you give it more than normal acceleration.

As a rough guide, chip = 30hp, 40 torque. Chip + nozzles = 40hp 65 torque. It depends on what stage you get, what nozzle size you get, and of course, each car is slightly different. A chip also causes more of a boost spike and a different power curve, nozzles don't change the boost at all and produce more of a stock looking power curve. Long answer is that it depends as each chip tuner is different.
