I had everything ready to go today with the transmission ready to ascend back to its home, and when I went to put the fly wheel on I realized that I don't have a torque rating for the six bolts that fix the fly wheel to the crank shaft...
good thing I have a few more days before I really need the car lol

any suggestions?

ok,
I went 45 ft-lbs with thread locker...
I asked the machinist at my local parts store and he said i'd be ok with that.
what do you think?
this is a smf from china too... so no specs came with it
and the bolts came with it too
they don't look like stretch

Sometimes it's like you just think they need that little bit more, they don't feel quite tight enough etc lol, I don't know, sometimes working on the car is enough to make you nervous.:)

I'm sure the machinist at your local parts store knows better than the VW engineers...

I'd want to know where those bolts came from, also... If you bought the clutch kit from one of the well-known vendors in the TDI community (idparts, boraparts, metalmanparts, worldimpex, 1stVWparts, and a couple of others whose names escape me at the moment), they should be VW-supplied bolts. If they're of unknown origin... Were they black-ish with blue thread-locker already present?

Chinese flywheel Sounds sketchy...

Out of curiosity I checked mine with the +1/4 turn, it was around 90ft-lbs but do it properly..
loc-tite is not the solution in my opinion, it would do terrible damage if those came out and it would suck to have to go back in there.

that's true...
and yes the bolts are black but there wasn't thread locker on them already. I put it on.

anyway, i'll go in today and increase the torque.

thanks for the advise

Where did you get your chinese flywheel and bolts?

For all you know, those could snap off by torquing them to the proper spec.

I think a lot of the stuff these days comes from china, even some vag stuff. I wouldn't write it off because of that.:)

I got the kit from Napa
this is why I am trusting it
time will tell
but yeah
i'm starting to have more confidence in some stuff from china
seeing how they own at least 25% of the US's debt anyway lol
