I'm in the middle of replacing the timing belt, water pump on a 2004 Jetta 2.0L.

I was wondering how do you get the engine mount bracket out of the way once the bolts have been removed?

Additionally, at what point do I need to at least get it into position to replace the bolts?

Not sure since we did not have that engine in TDI.

But if it's anything like the TDI, you can remove it after the belt is off or just work around. Working around it is much faster due to clearance issues in removing it.

Is it an AEG? Here is a "mark and pray" DIY I used this procedure on my wife's Beet. If you mean the aluminum piece that is to the left of the serp belt tensioner that uses the stretch bolts, I twisted it kind of sideways and let it sit down in to the back left of the lower timing belt cover. You wont need to mess with it until you are almost done. I think I raised the motor up to move it where it needed to go and then lowered the motor to reinstall it. I started with the lower bolt 1st I think. I did it like 2 years ago. The only thing that I remember clearly is being sore all over for about 3 days.
