Hey all,

2004 Jetta GLS wagon with BEW engine.

Car has always been very noisy and vibrates more intensely between ~1800-2000 rpm. I would say it increases in sound intensity by 2 or 3 times through this narrow range. If I set it on cruise control in this range the noise and vibration is persistent (i.e. it's not a transient).

Is this just the normal behavior of a BEW engine, or does it indicate something else wrong (i.e. resonance of crankshaft or bad motor mount) ?

Can you tell roughly where it's coming from? It could be a heat shield or exhaust hangar coming loose. I have a metal skid plate on mine that every so often will get a rock or something kicked up between it and the oil pan and cause a lot of noise.

I can't tell where it's coming from but I'll see if I can get someone to bring it up to that RPM in neutral and stick my head under the hood.

So it will make the noise while you are parked as well as when you are driving?
