So been watching videos and reading posts trying to figure it out. The sound my car is making seems like the cams. The black smoke and no power seems like a bad EGR. Any advice would be great so I know where to start.

A few days ago heading to work I lost all power and engine started knocking pretty loud with plenty of black smoke.

Prior to that she has a leaking EGR cooler that needs to be fixed and when she is cold she stutters and smokes pretty bad till I can clear it out by revving it. My mpg has always stayed at 39-41 mpg 🤷🏻‍♂️

In addition to the above issues I changed the oil, oil filter, and fuel filter 2 days earlier. Only thing to note from that is I did spill some diesel when I did not install the gasket properly on the fuel filter.

I’ll try and get a video up as I’m sure it will help.

That sounds like the camshaft and lifters need replacing.

As I've just posted in your old intro.

This is a new forum layout which is owned by a company last year that doesn't give a dam with loads of bugs which have been reported in the new thread. There is no TDI Wiki at the moment or original similes which they refuse to install. It doesn't show the car spec/location.

Add your car specs to your signature that will show on every post you make.

Car spec now shows not for all members.

This has been talked about many times.

I've made a poll which no one has posted in, there are a few votes and comments.

Do you like the new forum features?

Wiki pages have been restored as of 7th December, I asked where is the link it should be on top of the main forum.

Thanks for the info! I added my specs to the signature. Hopefully that helps in the future.

So the cam shaft and lifters would lead to a total loss of power? I guess that makes sense.
