Thanks, I dont understand how the egr can stop a runaway though, it's just leaking exhaust gasses into the intake manifold.

The EGR valve and the anti shudder valve are built into the same piece. When you shut off the ignition the anti shudder valve cuts off the air. This can stop a runaway engine since no air = no combustion.
