I would expect better sustained power. Think of an intercooler more as a heat sink.

Front mount intercoolers block the front radiator. But TDI don't put out as much heat as a V6 gasoline engine which were also in the Golf body so I wouldn't expect the engine to overheat.

I don't know about fitment because the 1.8T engines had the intake in the front of the engine. Yours is behind the engine. I would also look at a larger sidemount that is plug-play. Look through the performance FAQ article and there's a pic of someone's larger sidemount.

Any shop can make piping. I would be careful of the quality of the intercooler though, make sure to clean it before use in case the insides have dust or metal bits inside. You never know about the quality of e-bay accessories.
