Just swapped out the flywheel on my daughters 06 TDI Jetta. If you are planning on doing this, I suggest pulling the sub-frame and the drivers side lower suspension arm. After fighting with the tranny a while, it fell right out after removing these! It is not mentioned in the FAQ on the manual tranny but the auto may be bigger. I hope the new one does not start the "death rattle" for a long time. The first did last 90k. I HATE all of the special tools you have to get for the VW. I have a 95 3000gt Twin Turbo and I believe it is easier to work on! Whoever invented the "triple square bits / 12 point / XZN / serrated wrench and 12 point metric socket head screws" must have went to the same school as the guy who put the quarter size spout on the Castrol oil jug!
I stripped one of the 12 point bolts trying to take the cooler off of the tranny. Sorry no picks but it was pretty simple compared to the rest of the job.
"Thanks So Much" for all of the information on here. It got me through a timing belt replacement(and all that goes with it), flywheel change and the tranny fluid change. Thanks for "ALL" of the help!
