Here is a picture of the DPF warning light on a 2010 VW Golf TDI. It shouldn't light up under normal conditions or when the car is doing an active regen. It lights up when doing a forced regen or the car is having a DPF problem.
Interestingly enough, this is the second time I've tried forcing the active regen on someone's car. During this process, the car gets more boost. The first person said the car felt more powerful. The second person said the car felt less powerful.
The first car was a 2009 and I was able to read ml of clogging in the DPF and soot loading measured.
The second car was a 2010 and ml of DPF soot loading stayed at 0 ml and soot loading measured always stayed at 0, before, during, and after the active regen. Not sure why. Here is a screenshot from that car. VCDS didn't have label files for the 2010 yet so it certainly didn't help either. I think VW must have changed something for 2010 vs. 2009 so VCDS wasn't reading the correct values. The screenshot was immediately after the regen which is why it says 0km since last regen but the other 0ml of soot loading and 0.0 never changed.
This info has been added to the Volkswagen DPF particulate filter and Adblue FAQ: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/DPF-Adblue-FAQ-VW-Audi.htm
