I think it's just the light, but the metal ring around the edge should be even. Roll the bearings, they should be smooth. The tab on the back should have no cracks.

When in doubt, replace the tensioner, it's not worth losing the engine over it.

well too late for that I think that the person put the tensioner too tight got 25,000 kms and really didn't like the sound I should have listened to my instincts the belt broke 6 lifters and 3 valves later I'm ready to put the head back on but I noticed that this tensioner has a broken piece of plastic so I'm going to get another one just in case and this time I will be doing the job myself with some help from the forums. Valves are replaced head is clean ready to go back on waiting for gasket. I've put the bottom at tdc put a pin in the injection pump and locked the cam both lobs in the V position now only thing left is to get the tensioner right

While waiting had a chance to clean out the intake manifold , easy off over night , then brake cleaner works great.
