hello i have a 99 beetle that was working fine up to about a week ago.. Now it wont turn over. When i try to start it alarm goes off. replaced battery & checked fuses.. i was reading online and some say that 99 do have immobilizers and others say they don't. How can i find out for sure?

Use VCDS to try to connect to the immobilizer. When you turn the car on, do you see the car-key symbol flash? If no on both you don't have an immobilzer.

FYI, the immobilizer still lets the engine start fine, it just shuts it off after a second. This is an alarm problem not an immobilizer problem. Check out the immobiilzer faq for more info on the system, welcome!

Check the wires at the drivers door harness for breakage. It can cause alarm issues and immobolization by starter cutout in the convenience system. If is wont crank that is the likely cause.
