Can the EGR system be shut off by simply disconnecting the vacuum line from the diaphram? What are the consequences from doing this except ofcourse setting off the check engine light and failing the emissions test? Dean

Disabling the EGR system on a 2003 Jetta TDI

No consequences except much higher emissions. The EGR works. The best thing to do is to retune to get rid of the CEL, get a little more power, and optimize the tune for no EGR.
