Ok when I first had my Golf the DRLs were on all the time which I hate.

I went back to the dealer to next day over a scuff on the bodywork and I asked can the DRLs be turned off at the same time. They took it in the workshop and fixed the scuff and fixed the DRLs at the same time. I asked them how they turned the DRLs off and they said something with the indicator switch and ignition switch sequence which sounds like disable/enable without VAGCOM. THis proceedure doesn't work on my standard HID lights.

I changed the tap flasher today now the DRLs are back on and I can't get them off. This Long Coding needs to be explained in more detail as the Ross-Tech help is ****.

How to disable the daytime running lights or use foglights as DRL on your mk5 VW Jetta, Golf, or Rabbit (2005-2009)

Ok I've had another look at doing it manually and it works.
Manual Procedure to disable DRL
This is for halogen only,

With the headlight switch and key off, hold the turn signal stalk to the left (down) while pulling it back to turn the high beams on. Turn the key on and wait for 6 confirmation chimes.

To reactivate them, hold the turn signal to the right (up) while pulling on it to turn the high beams on. Turn the key on and wait for 6 confirmation chimes.
It doesn't do 6 chimes it only does 2 but I'm happy and my tap flashers are now doing 5 flashes not 3.

I'm not sure if its the US market that does 6 chimes?

Cheers Chitty. ;)

The link above was for the mk5
That link says How to disable DRL on your VW Golf (mk6), set the foglights as DRL, or adjust DRL brightness so you can change it to MK6 as it says here.

Yes, I have a green "DRL" that glows on my dash (on the right, bottom of the speedo dial) whenever the DRL circuit is activated. This works not only for factory DRL, but also when you set fogs as DRL as I have.

I would have thought that all DRLs are factory fits. This just goes to show how VW mix specs for different countries. I suppose I could have a DRL light but the dials are all black so you can't see anything until they light up. I haven't checked in the handbook.
