I thought you might have some insight on this one...I had a hard fuel
line crack (I believe, see part #'s below) on my new 2010 Golf at a
mere 11K. I heard a periodic tapping noise from the engine right
before it happened, but I pulled over and everything looked fine and
dealer said it looked fine so I continued on. 100 miles later fuel
was spraying all over the place. I'm wondering if the flapping might
have been a loose clip or bolt and maybe the fuel pipe was moving
around and subsequently cracked. The VW tech said he had no idea how
it happened. He had never heard of this happening before. Or maybe
they overtorqued it. If the diesel was cleaned off of components in 2
days it shouldn't cause any damage to rubber (or other) parts, right?

I think I should call NHTSA since I lost engine power from 65 down to
40 almost instantly...and fuel sprayed everywhere. Dangerous but not
as dangerous as gas. Almost got rear ended, however.

It could have caused a fire. Definitely call NHTSA. The dealer dropped the ball on this one if they said it was fine after looking at it and it caused such a big failure.
