After a recent trip to the eifel region of germany my car has suddenly started making a darth vader breathing type noise from the back of the car (as if it's exhaust pipe noise) so something has changed. There's no obvious boost leaks (had it checked in germany) and power seems ok but i drove it home gently but it went to limp mode when held at 2500 rpm in 6th gear.
Like i said the darth vader sound is definitely from the back of the car (no exhaust leaks either as that was checked)
Anyone any ideas??

Wish it was lol! It's when the turbo comes on boost and the sound is from the exhaust pipe.

Use the force..... i wish i could but need some jedi training first lol!
Not a EGR leak as checked. The darth vader breathing noise is emitted from the exhaust.
The german mechanic said it could have a stuck actuator?
Anyway the car is going to a specialist tdi tuner (in two weeks) for a going over and possible turbo rebuild if needed.

Maybe one of your exhaust boxes has collapsed inside, I've seen that before, has it been checked for fault codes?:)
Wheel bearing Sipper? You ought to get more sleep bud lol, it'd be a first for a wheel bearing to cause limp mode.:)

This problem has also been fixed! It was a silicone hose under the engine that i've had problems with before that will be replaced with a brand new pipe on sunday am.
The noise seemed to come from the rear of the car even though it the problem was under the engine.
It's funny how you many different noises a boost leak can make depending on the hole, split or other damage. I've had a few over the years and everyone is different.
