I saw in the FAQs something about coolant migration. I think I get the idea (coolant sloshes in the tank, gets up into the connection for the sensor, then seems along the wires throughout the car). I met someone with an 06 golf who's coolant tank has the sensor coming out nearly horizontal (parallel to the ground). He has poked a small hole right near the sensor connection to let it drain (without puncturing the tank). I looked at mine (2005 jetta wagon), thinking I'd do the same. However, my tank has the sensor coming out at a nearly 45-60 degree angle to the ground. I am wondering if anyone knows much about the differences between these cars (I thought that the 06 golf and 05 jetta were actually very similar - BEW and all) so I was surprised that this would be different. Do you think that coolant migration would be an issue in my car without poking the hole?

I thought the horizontal one was the one that leaked? It's not about sloshing coolant, it's about a defective coolant tank that lets liquid past the seals and into the wiring.
I would suspect that the horizontal one would be more prone to this than the angled one. I guess I was just surprised that mine had an angled one, yet was a year older.
