I have a problem with the clutch on 01 golf. Clutch pedal is soft, will not shift into gears very easily and when the pedal is depressed there is a squealing sound that starts when depressed about half way. What part is broken? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like the throw out bearing. However, a failed throw out bearing typically presents both an audible sound and a pulsation in the clutch pedal.

The other contradiction is the soft pedal, which normally means you are leaking fluid or have air in the line.

I had the same issue with my Jetta TDI...I replaced the clutch disk, pressure plate and bearing and now the transmission is not going in gear. It will go in gear if the engine is not running. I bled the system and no change. Any ideas??? Need help.
