I know I didn't hit anything, all of a sudden I've noticed a clunking noise in the front. It's worse when I go over small bumps and manhole covers. Is this a sign that the strut bearings are going?
Maybe but I'd bet on the sway bar bushings first. Look under the car, the bar that connects the left and right suspension is the sway bar. It has bushings all over, these tend to cause front end clunking in these cars.
Even if they are not noticeably loose, they can still cause clunking since they get worn out. The fact that you say it's worse on small bumps is a clue that it's the sway bar bushings.
