I read the local procedures for claying the car. I tend to consult this site for these things first. However, I've read on other forums that some "experts" recommend stripping the wax prior to clay. Is stripping a significant procedure, or nit picky?
It should work a little better but I've never noticed any difference. If I am doing a major detailing involving clay+polish, I wash the car with dishwashing soap anyways. You should wash the car before clay otherwise you could put scratches into the paint and the clay will get loaded too fast. It's a strong soap that will strip the wax away and does a good job at cutting any road grease. Normally you shouldn't use dishwashing soap for just a wash. But I don't think dishwashing soap will damage the plastics or rubber so it's just a matter of keeping the old wax on.
