What engine is the AVF? What year passat?

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/b5/lockcarrier_service.htm If your car is a B5 or B5.5 Passat than yes. Here are instructions for the B5.5 - the B5 is somewhat similar - you don't have to remove the carrier, you just slide it back. You do have to remove the bumper skin though.
